Zambian Kwacha
About Zambian Kwacha
The kwacha replaced the Zambian pound in 1968. Kwacha means dawn in Nyanja and Bemba, symbolizing independence. Redenominated in 2013 at 1,000 to 1. Zambian banknotes feature the African fish eagle and Victoria Falls. The Bank of Zambia was established in 1964. Zambia is one of the largest copper producers in Africa. The kwacha is heavily influenced by copper prices. The 2013 redenomination removed three zeros to simplify transactions after years of inflation.
