German Mark
About German Mark
The currency of the German Empire, Weimar Republic, and West Germany. First introduced after unification in 1871. The hyperinflation of 1923 destroyed the papiermark, with prices doubling every two days at the peak. The rentenmark ended the crisis. The reichsmark replaced it under the Nazis. After World War II, the deutsche mark became West Germanys currency from 1948 until the euro in 2002. The DM was Germanys postwar economic miracle currency and Europes most respected currency.
