About Polish Zloty
The national currency of Poland since the 16th century. Zloty means golden in Polish. Originally a gold coin worth 30 silver groschen. Redenominated multiple times due to inflation and political upheaval. The 1924 reform established the modern zloty at 1.8 million marks to 1 zloty. After World War II, the communist government issued new zloty. Redenominated again in 1995 at 10,000 to 1. Poland has not adopted the euro.
