Samoan Tala
About Samoan Tala
The tala replaced the Western Samoan pound in 1967. Tala means tell or count in Samoan. The tala is pegged to a basket of currencies. Samoan banknotes feature the national flag, traditional houses, and cultural artifacts. The Central Bank of Samoa was established in 1984. Samoa is heavily dependent on remittances from Samoan communities abroad, tourism, and development aid. The tala has remained relatively stable for a small Pacific island currency.
