Umayyad Copper
About Umayyad Copper
The last Umayyad copper coins before the reform of Abd al-Malik. These coins showed the caliph standing or the Cross on steps with modifications. Some early Umayyad copper coins featured the Prayer figure, thought to represent the caliph. These transitional coins are important evidence of the process by which Islamic coinage developed its distinctive aniconic style. Each province had its own types, creating a rich variety for collectors.
