About Tanzanian Shilling
Replaced the East African shilling in 1966. The Tanzanian shilling is managed by the Bank of Tanzania, established in 1966. Tanzanian banknotes feature the first president Julius Nyerere and African wildlife including giraffes, elephants, and lions. The shilling has depreciated steadily since introduction. Tanzania is one of the largest economies in East Africa. The shilling is not freely convertible.
