About US Two Cent Bronze
See the Two Cent Piece entry. The two cent bronze was introduced alongside the new copper-nickel small cent in 1864. The motto In God We Trust first appeared on this coin at the urging of Treasury Secretary Salmon P. Chase. The 1864 large motto is common, the small motto is scarce. The denomination was discontinued in 1873.
