About US Two Cent Piece
The first US coin to bear the motto In God We Trust. Introduced during the Civil War when copper coins were hoarded. The two cent piece was short lived, minted only from 1864 to 1873. Featured a shield on the obverse. The 1864 small motto variant is scarce. The denomination was unpopular and never circulated widely. One of the shortest lived US coin series.
