About Turnose
A French imitation of the English gros tournois. Featured the walls of Tours on one side and a cross on the other. The gros tournois of Saint Louis was minted from 1266 to 1320 and was one of the most successful medieval European coins. Imitated across Europe. The turnose was worth 12 deniers tournois. The design influenced French coinage for over a century. The gros tournois is common in medieval hoards throughout France.
