Tribute Penny
About Tribute Penny
The denarius of Tiberius is traditionally identified as the tribute penny from the Biblical passage where Jesus says Render unto Caesar what is Caesars. The coin features Tiberius on the obverse with the inscription TI CAESAR DIVI AVG F AVGVSTVS. The reverse shows Livia as Pax. The tribute penny is one of the most famous ancient coins due to its Biblical connection. Millions of Tiberius denarii were minted and they are common in collections today.
