About Trade Token

Tokens issued by businesses as promotional items or substitutes for coins. A customer who bought a certain amount of merchandise received a trade token worth a few cents toward a future purchase. Trade tokens were common in rural areas and company towns. Mining and logging communities often had company store tokens that could only be spent at the company store. Trade tokens are collected for their connection to local business history.
