About US Political Token
Political tokens have been used in American elections since the 1800s. The most famous are the Hard Cider tokens of William Henry Harrison in 1840 and the Lincoln Rail Splitter tokens of 1860. Tokens were produced in enormous varieties with candidate portraits, slogans, and symbols. The tokens are collected as political memorabilia alongside official campaign buttons and posters. Some tokens satirized opponents with crude caricatures.
