About Greek Tetradrachm
The standard large silver coin of the Greek world, worth four drachmai. The Athenian owl tetradrachm is the most famous. Other cities produced stunning tetradrachms: Syracuse, Corinth, Thebes. A tetradrachm could buy a pair of shoes or a month of basic rations. Hellenistic kings used tetradrachms to project their image. The tetradrachm remained the dominant silver coin of the eastern Mediterranean until Roman times.
