About UK Ten Pence
The decimal ten pence replaced the florin, continuing the 1848 tradition of a tenth of a pound coin. The original large 10p was reduced in size in 1992. Featured a lion passant on the reverse initially, later the royal shield. Over 2 billion have been minted. The 10p is one of the workhorses of British decimal coinage. The small size 10p matches the weight of the old threepence, though the designs differ.
