The only major franc still in use. The Swiss franc is considered the worlds safest currency due to Switzerlands political neutrality, strong economy, and gold backing that lasted until 2000. During the euro crisis of 2011, the franc appreciated so much that the Swiss National Bank pegged it to the euro at 1.20. The peg was removed in 2015 causing market turmoil. The 1,000 franc note is one of the highest value circulating banknotes in the world.
