About Sur Empire Coin
Coins of the Sur Empire founded by Sher Shah Suri, who expelled Humayun from India. Sher Shah introduced the rupee system that lasted for over 400 years. His silver rupee was standardized at 178 grains of pure silver. The Sur coinage was remarkably standardized and influenced Mughal coinage. Sher Shah also introduced the copper dam and gold mohur in a tri-metallic system. The Sur dynasty was brief but transformed Indian monetary history.
