About Ottoman Sultani
The standard gold coin of the Ottoman Empire, also called the altin. Modeled on the Venetian ducat with 3.5 grams of pure gold. Featured the name and titles of the sultan in Arabic calligraphy. The sultani was accepted across the Mediterranean and the Middle East. Mehmed II, who conquered Constantinople in 1453, introduced the coin. The sultani maintained consistent weight and purity for over 200 years, a remarkable achievement.
