US Stella
About US Stella
A proposed four dollar gold coin, also called the Flowing Hair Stella. Intended for international trade to compete with European coins. Only about 425 were minted as patterns. The Stella was never adopted for circulation. Two types exist: the Flowing Hair by Charles Barber and the Coiled Hair by George Morgan. The 1879 Flowing Hair Stella is the most affordable at around 100,000 dollars. The 1880 Coiled Hair is worth over 1 million dollars.
