Soviet Ruble
About Soviet Ruble
The currency of the Soviet Union from 1922 to 1991. The Soviet ruble was non convertible, with an artificially fixed exchange rate. The official rate was 0.6 rubles to 1 dollar in the 1980s, but the black market rate was 10 to 20 times worse. Soviet citizens could not legally hold foreign currency. The ruble was symbolized by the abbreviation rub. The Soviet ruble collapsed with the USSR in 1991, replaced by national currencies in 15 successor states.
