About Venetian Soldino
A small Venetian silver coin worth 12 piccoli. The soldino was used in everyday commerce. Venice had a complex monetary system with multiple denominations in gold, silver, and copper. The soldino was imitated in England where it was called the galyhalpens or galley halfpenny. Venetian galleys brought soldini to England in such quantities that they became a nuisance, leading to restrictions on their use.
