About US Silver Certificate
Paper currency backed by silver dollars held by the Treasury. The holder could exchange the certificate for silver dollars on demand. Silver certificates were issued from 1878 to 1964. The 1896 Educational Series is considered the most beautiful American paper money ever produced. The 1899 Black Eagle note featured eagles and portraits of Lincoln and Grant. Redeemed for silver dollars until 1968.
