About British Shilling
Worth 12 old pence or one twentieth of a pound. The shilling was a staple of British commerce for centuries. The word bob for a shilling dates to the 18th century. British shillings featured the monarch on the obverse. The English shilling was established by the Tudors and continued through decimalisation. The decimal five pence coin replaced the shilling in 1971 and remained the same size until 1990.
