A meme token inspired by Dogecoin, featuring the same Shiba Inu breed. SHIB launched on Ethereum as an ERC-20 token. The anonymous creator Ryoshi envisioned SHIB as an experiment in decentralized community building. The Shiba Inu ecosystem includes the ShibaSwap decentralized exchange and SHIB token burning mechanisms. Despite being dismissed by critics as a joke, SHIB reached a market capitalization of over 40 billion dollars in 2021. The community calls themselves the SHIBArmy.
