About Japanese Sen
The Japanese one sen coin, worth 1/100 of a yen. Introduced with the Meiji monetary reform. Featured the rising sun and chrysanthemum designs. The sen was essential for small purchases. During World War II, sen coins were made of aluminum, then tin and zinc as metal shortages worsened. The sen was demonetized in 1953 due to inflation making it worthless. One sen coins are collected for their historical designs.
