Sudanese Pound
About Sudanese Pound
The Sudanese pound was introduced at independence in 1956. Redenominated in 2007 at 100 to 1, and again in 2011 after South Sudan seceded. The Central Bank of Sudan was established in 1960. Sudan faced US sanctions from 1997 to 2017, isolating it from the international financial system. The Sudanese pound has depreciated dramatically due to inflation, economic mismanagement, and political instability including the 2019 revolution that ousted Omar al-Bashir.
