About US Susan B Anthony Dollar
The first US coin to feature a real woman. Susan B. Anthony was a leader of the womens suffrage movement. The coin was too similar in size to the quarter, causing massive confusion. Minted only from 1979 to 1981 and again in 1999. Over 850 million were minted but the public rejected them. The coins sat in Treasury vaults for decades. The failure led to the distinctive gold colored Sacagawea dollar in 2000.
