About Saxon Silver Coin
Saxony was one of the richest silver mining regions in Europe. The Schreckenberg and Annaberg mints produced enormous quantities of silver coins. The Saxon coinage helped fund the Reformation. Martin Luther protested the indulgences that were paid for with Saxon silver. The Joachimsthal in neighboring Bohemia supplied much of the silver. Saxon coins circulated throughout central Europe and influenced the development of the taler.
