About Sasanian Drachm
The standard silver coin of Sasanian Persia for over 400 years. Featured the kings bust with an elaborate crown on the obverse and two priests at a fire altar on the reverse. Each king had a unique crown design, allowing identification without reading the inscription. The Sasanian drachm was remarkably consistent in weight and purity. These coins circulated as far as China and Scandinavia, evidence of the vast Silk Road trade network.
