About US Sacagawea Dollar
Featured Sacagawea, the Shoshone woman who guided Lewis and Clark. The golden color was intended to distinguish it from the quarter. Despite being called the golden dollar it contains no gold. The edge is lettered rather than reeded. Over 1 billion have been minted. The Native American dollar reverse design changes annually. Despite heavy minting, few circulate as most are held in Treasury storage.
