About Rosa Americana
A private copper token coinage for the American colonies, produced by William Wood under a patent from King George I. Featured a rose on the reverse. The coins were unpopular in America due to their low intrinsic value. The Rosa Americana pieces are collected as colonial American coins. Benjamin Franklin criticized them as a fraud on the American people. The coinage was discontinued in 1733.
