About Panama-Pacific Exposition Coin
Commemorative coins issued for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco. Included a fifty dollar gold coin, the largest US commemorative coin. The fifty dollar octagonal and round versions featured Athena and an owl. Only 1,509 octagonal and 1,510 round fifty dollar coins were sold. The 1915-S quarter dollar and half dollar commemoratives are more affordable. The exposition celebrated the opening of the Panama Canal.
