About Russian Poltina
The Russian half ruble silver coin. Featured the monogram of Peter the Great on early issues. The poltina was an important denomination in 18th century Russian commerce. Later issues featured the imperial double headed eagle. The 1740 poltina of Ivan VI is extremely rare due to his brief reign. The poltina was discontinued in the 19th century but briefly revived under Nicholas I.
