About Philippine Peso
Introduced during the Spanish colonial period. The peso was the first currency used in the Philippines, replacing the barter system. Featured Spanish royalty on early coins. The Philippine peso was pegged to the US dollar during American colonial rule at 2 to 1. The peso is now freely floating. Philippine banknotes feature national heroes including Jose Rizal. The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas was established in 1993.
