About Spanish Peseta
Replaced the escudo after the Spanish Revolution of 1868. The name comes from pesseta meaning small piece in Catalan. The peseta was pegged to the franc during the Franco era. Spains transition to democracy after 1975 saw economic modernization. The peseta was replaced by the euro in 2002 at 166.386 pesetas per euro. Spanish euro coins feature the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela and King Juan Carlos.
