About Peruvian Sol
The Peruvian sol replaced the Spanish colonial real. The name sol means sun in Spanish, referencing Inti the Inca sun god. The sol was replaced by the inti in 1985 due to inflation. The inti was replaced by the nuevo sol in 1991 after hyperinflation. The nuevo sol was renamed simply sol in 2015. Peruvian coins feature the coat of arms and archaeological motifs including Machu Picchu.
