About Oregon Trail Half Dollar
The longest running US commemorative coin, minted intermittently from 1926 to 1939. Featured a Native American and a covered wagon. Designed by Laura Gardin Fraser and James Earle Fraser. Over 260,000 were minted across all dates and mint marks. The 1926-S is the most common. The 1939 issues are the scarcest. The Oregon Trail half was sold at a premium to raise funds for historical markers along the trail.
