About Omani Rial
The third highest valued currency unit. Replaced the Indian rupee and the Gulf rupee. Pegged to the US dollar at 0.384 rials to 1 dollar. Omani banknotes feature Sultan Qaboos, traditional forts, and Omani ships. The Central Bank of Oman was established in 1974. Before 1970, Oman used the Maria Theresa thaler and the Indian rupee. The rial is fully convertible and backed by oil revenues and prudent monetary policy.
