About Mughal Copper Dam
The copper coin of the Mughal Empire, the everyday currency for common people. The dam was worth approximately 1/40 of a rupee. Akbar standardized the coinage system with gold mohurs, silver rupees, and copper dams. Sher Shah Suris system, maintained by the Mughals, lasted until British colonization. The dams bore the name of the mint and the year of issue according to the Hijri calendar.
