About Indian Mohur
The standard gold coin of Mughal India. First issued by Sher Shah Suri and refined by Akbar. Weighed approximately 11 grams of gold. The Mohur was the highest denomination coin in circulation. The British East India Company continued minting mohurs until 1891. The mohur is still minted as a commemorative coin by the Government of India. The word mohur means seal or stamp in Persian.
