About Ottoman Medjidie
A reform coinage under Sultan Abdulmejid I. The gold medjidie was worth 100 kurus or 5 piastres. Featured the sultans tughras and a wreath. The silver medjidie was the standard large silver coin of the late Ottoman period. The Ottoman bimetallic system struggled with the declining value of silver in the late 19th century. The medjidie system lasted until the Ottoman monetary reform of 1913.
