About Finnish Markka
Introduced by the Bank of Finland while Finland was a Grand Duchy under Russia. The name comes from a unit of weight. Finland gained its own currency before its independence in 1917. The markka was a symbol of Finnish national identity. Pegged to the deutsche mark in the 1990s. Finland was the only Nordic country to adopt the euro in 2002, replacing the markka at 5.94573 per euro.
