About Maltese Scudo
The currency of the Order of Malta, the Knights Hospitaller. Featured the Grand Masters coat of arms and a cross. The Maltese scudo was used from 1530 when the Knights were given Malta until Napoleon captured the island in 1798. The coins are collected for their connection to the Crusading orders. The scudo is still used as the official currency of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, a unique entity in international law.
