Maltese Eight Pointed Cross
About Maltese Eight Pointed Cross
The silver coins of the Knights of Malta featured the distinctive eight pointed cross of the Order. The cross represented the eight beatitudes of Christ. The Order minted coins on Malta from 1530 until Napoleon captured the island in 1798. The Grand Masters who issued the most coinage included Jean de Valette, who built Valletta after the Great Siege of 1565. Maltese coins are collected for their connection to the Crusading military orders.
