About Malaysian Tin Cash
Tin cash coins of the Malay sultanates, influenced by Chinese cash coins but with local characteristics. Some had square holes, others were round with Arabic inscriptions. The tin coins of Malacca were produced from the 15th century. Tin was abundant in the Malay Peninsula. The coins circulated alongside Chinese cash and later Spanish dollars. Tin animal money in the shape of crocodiles and other animals was also used in Perak.
