About Tally Coins of Lydia
The earliest electrum coins before King Croesus introduced pure gold and silver. These crude coins were stamped with punch marks and varied in weight. Some featured a lions head, others a boar or a bee. The variations in electrum composition were a challenge, solved by King Alyattes who standardized the alloy. These coins represent the experimental phase of coinage, when the concept of stamped guaranteed money was still being developed.
