About Latvian Lats
The lats was introduced in 1922 after Latvian independence. The Soviet occupation in 1940 replaced the lats with the Soviet ruble. Latvia restored the lats in 1993 after regaining independence. The lats was one of the most valuable currency units in Europe. Latvia adopted the euro in 2014 at 0.7028 lats per euro. The 500 lats note was one of the most valuable banknotes in the world.
