About Long Island Half Dollar
A commemorative half dollar marking the 300th anniversary of the first settlement on Long Island. Featured a Dutch settler on one side and a steamship on the other. Only 81,826 were minted. The Long Island half dollar was sold during the 1936 tercentenary celebration. The design by Howard Weinman, son of Adolph Weinman, is notable for its clean lines. The coin represents the proliferation of commemorative issues during the mid 1930s.
