About Bulgarian Lev
Lev means lion in Bulgarian, also named after the leeuwendaalder. The lev was pegged to the German mark and later the euro. Bulgaria operated a currency board from 1997, making the lev one of the most stable currencies in Eastern Europe. The lev is pegged to the euro at 1.95583 lev per euro. Bulgaria aims to adopt the euro but has been delayed.
