About US Large Cent
The large cent was minted from 1793 to 1857. Early types included the Chain, Wreath, and Liberty Cap cents. The Chain cent was the first cent issued by the US Mint and is extremely rare. Large cents were about the size of a half dollar and weighed over 10 grams. The 1943 steel cent is sometimes confused with large cents by novice collectors. The Braided Hair large cent of 1839 to 1857 was the final series.
