About Iraqi Dinar
Introduced when Iraq gained independence from Britain. The dinar was originally pegged to the British pound and was one of the strongest currencies in the Middle East. Saddam Hussein featured on Iraqi dinar notes until the 2003 invasion. The new Iraqi dinar was introduced in 2003 to replace Saddams currency. Iraqi banknotes now feature historical sites and cultural motifs. The Central Bank of Iraq was established in 1947.
